WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In the Republican presidential race, front-running Texas Gov. George W. Bush still has the lead when it comes to fund-raising, although rival candidate Arizona Sen. John McCain is gaining some financial strength.
But McCain -- along with Democratic challenger Bill Bradley -- may find that Bush and Democratic front-runner Vice President Al Gore have something more powerful than money.
CNN's senior political analyst Bill Schneider explains that when the favored candidates of the Republican and Democratic parties face insurgent candidates like McCain and Bradley, the empire strikes back.
