Video: Bauer remains hopeful despite lagging polls

December 23, 1999

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- GOP presidential hopeful Gary Bauer said Thursday he remains undaunted by recent polls that show him trailing far behind front-running Texas Governor George W. Bush.

During an interview with Judy Woodruff on CNN's "Inside Politics," Bauer touched upon issues such as abortion, campaign finance and his faith.

Asked whether there is room in the GOP for those who believe in abortion rights, Bauer said, "I think there's room for anybody that wants to come in. But those that come in ought to come in because they find some of our tenets compelling."
