The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

The United Nations-sponsored panel of 2,500 climate scientists whose 1995 report is considered the most complete scientific effort to date to assess the potential impact of climate change. The IPCC Panel's near-consensus was that human activity is having some discernible impact on climate, and that by 2100, a warming earth could result in more frequent storms and droughts, sea level rise of up to three feet, and up to six degrees F. in temperature rise.

The George C. Marshall Institute

Offers a dissenting view on climate change. Other dissenting views can be found at the Global Warming Information Page, which is sponsored by the Cooler Heads Coalition, a group of politically libertarian and conservative non-profit organizations concerned that global warming is unproven, and that addressing it would have serious economic consequences.

Non-Government groups who advocate strong action to reduce the impacts of global warming include:

The Natural Resources Defense Council

NRDC's site also includes a long list of government, research, and non-government organization links on global warming

The Climate Institute

Ozone Action

Information on Arctic Ice research can be found at The International Arctic Climate System Study, a global consortium of polar scientists.

The organizations of those who appeared in CNN's segments on global warming can be found at:

Dr. Michael Oppenheimer: The Environmental Defense Fund site includes detailed information on the potential impact of sea level rise to beaches and coastal communities.

Dr. Pat Michaels: The Greening Earth Society is a group affiliated with the Western Fuels Association, a U.S. coal industry trade group. The site includes World Climate Report, produced by Dr. Michaels.

Kalee Krieder: The National Environmental Trust sponsors informational campaigns calling for strong action to reduce global warming.

The Global Climate Coalition is a trade association of fossil fuel producers, auto and chemical manufacturers who are opposed to the Kyoto Accord on Climate Change.

Dery Bennett: The American Littoral Society, an environmental group focusing on coastal.

Ken Smith: The Coastal Advocate, argues that money spent on restoring eroded beaches is more than paid back by tourism revenue.

Dr. Drew Rothrock, The University of Washington researcher studying arctic ice.
