(IDG) -- More than 500 Year 2000 community information centers recently opened throughout the Los Angeles area to help residents prepare for and pass into the Year 2000.

The centers are an outreach effort of the Millennium Alliance, a public/private partnership sponsored by Los Angeles County, the city of Los Angeles and Candle Corp. The alliance was formed earlier this year to bring together government, community-based organizations and volunteer groups to coordinate local Year 2000 preparedness efforts.

The centers, stocked with brochures and pamphlets, are located at all city police stations, fire stations, libraries, parks and recreation offices. The information also is available at most other city and county offices and the county sheriff's office.
