GRAPEVINE, Texas (CNN) -- An American Airlines employee charged with possession of bomb-making material was arraigned Tuesday and ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bond, police in Grapevine, Texas, told CNN.

Jere Wayne Haney, 42, works for the airline at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, reportedly as a mechanic.

Using a search warrant, investigators spent several hours going through Haney's one-bedroom apartment Monday after airport police stopped him earlier for running a stop sign.

What police found

According to Grapevine police spokesman Bob Murphy, they found:

• A 50-pound bag of ammonium nitrate, which has the potential to fuel an explosion equal to a box of dynamite.

• Four handguns and 12 long-barrel weapons, including four assault-type weapons.

• Several thousand rounds of ammunition -- most of it for the assault weapons.

• Anti-government literature, including a "how-to" bomb making book.

Murphy said police did not find any bombs under construction in the apartment and he said there was no evidence that Haney was intending to assemble the materials into a bomb.

"We have no evidence to believe he was getting ready to use them (the bomb-making material)" Murphy said. "We have no suspicion that any of this was millennium related."

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the FBI was called in to help with the investigation, in part, because Haney is an airline employee, and also because of heightened awareness about possible Year 2000-related acts of terrorism.

Suspect ran a stop sign

Haney only came under suspicion after police at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport pulled him over in his car Monday morning for running a stop sign.

After he was then arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, Haney was found to be carrying 67 small bottles of alcohol, the type used by airlines, officials said.

Haney was taken to the airport's Department of Public Safety headquarters, and during an interview with investigators, he consented to let them search his home for other bottles that possibly were stolen.

Airport officers who went to Haney's apartment reported finding items that were not part of their original investigation. The officers called Grapevine police, who obtained a search-and-arrest warrant for Haney's home.
