KOMARNO, Slovakia (CNN) -- The Iron Curtain is gone, the Cold War is over and NATO bombs no longer fall from the sky, but their collective legacy reverberates along the Danube River. In their wake are casualties of war: shattered lives and ruined businesses.

Watch the video to see what it means to live in the valley of this historic but long-suffering European waterway.
