Video: Pols often put to test on late night TV

January 13, 2000
Web posted at: 8:16 p.m. EST (0116 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Call it what you will, a hazing ritual or a rite of political passage, but First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's appearance Wednesday night on the Late Show with David Letterman was not the first time a candidate has been tested on TV.

CNN'S Beth Fouhy reviews a few other "memorable moments" -- from President Richard Nixon's "sock it to me" on Rowan and Martin's "Laugh-In," to President Bill Clinton's sax riffs on the Arsenio Hall Show.
