Al Gore's victory in the Iowa caucuses appears to have boosted his candidacy nationwide, according to the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll. The number of registered Democrats who support Gore for the nomination has jumped from 60 percent in mid-January to 67 percent today.
Gore also gained ground some against George W. Bush in a possible November match-up, going from 41 percent in mid-January to 44 percent now. Bush continues to win support from a majority of registered voters, and has maintained a four-to-one lead over his chief rival, John McCain, among registered Republicans nationwide.
The poll was based on interviews with 865 registered voters, including 394 registered Republicans and 401 registered Democrats, and was conducted January 25-26, 2000. It has a sampling error of plus or minus five percentage points unless otherwise noted.
