Tracking poll: Bradley gains ground on Gore

Bill Bradley has gained ground and currently wins support from almost as many
likely Democratic primary voters as Al Gore, according to a new CNN/USA Today/Gallup tracking poll.
In interviews conducted Thursday through Saturday, 47 percent of likely voters chose Bradley
and 48 percent picked Gore. That's a gain of four points for Bradley, whose campaign tactics in the last
few days appear to have energized his supporters and convinced Granite State
voters that he is more trustworthy than Gore.
The key question is whether Bradley can consolidate those gains or whether the electorate
will continue to swing between the two Democrats as the election approaches -- and only
additional polling will answer that question.
On the GOP side, John McCain has a narrow 39 percent -- 34 percent edge over George W. Bush, with Steve Forbes at 15 percent and
Alan Keyes at 9 percent. McCain's strength is that he is seen as someone who is
trustworthy, in touch with average Americans, and has a vision for the
country's future.
The poll is based on interviews with 754 likely Democratic primary voters and 958 likely Republican
primary voters. It was conducted January 27-29.
