WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democrats are making a major effort in this election season to pick up the six seats needed to wrest control of the U.S. Senate from Republicans, who have held the majority in the chamber since 1994.
The Senate majority has shifted three times in the last 18 years, and each time the winning party has picked up more than the six victories the Democrats need to regain majority control. CNN's Chris Black takes a look at the year's closely contested Senate races, and how they could ultimately tip the balance in the Democrats' favor.
