Clinton rules out writing impeachment book

Clinton looks at books

SAN JOSE, California (Reuters) -- President Clinton said Saturday he did not plan to write a book about the impeachment scandal that tarnished his presidency.

"I've thought about it enough already," Clinton told a news media pool reporter as he shopped at Willow Glen Books during a fund-raising visit to California's Silicon Valley.

Clinton had been perusing a display of newly released books that featured "The Breach," by Washington Post reporter Peter Baker. Baker helped lead the newspaper's coverage of the impeachment scandal that stemmed from Clinton's affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

Clinton said he had not read Baker's book but had read some others on the scandal. The scandal culminated in Clinton's February 1999 acquittal in a Senate impeachment trial on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.

Asked whether he planned to write a book of his own on the scandal once he left office in January, he said, "No, I'm going to think about other things when I get done."
