Bush daughter recovering after appendectomy
AUSTIN, Texas (CNN) -- One of President-elect George W. Bush's twin daughters was resting Monday night at an Austin, Texas, hospital after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.
Jenna Bush, 19, was listed in stable condition at St. David's Medical Center, said Bush spokesman Gordon Johndroe. He predicted she would be released Tuesday.
A freshman at the University of Texas in Austin, Jenna Bush was taken to the hospital from the governor's mansion about 5:30 p.m. EST after she complained of abdominal pains, said Dan Bartlett, another Bush spokesman. She was at the residence sharing Christmas with her family, including her twin sister, Barbara.
When the young woman arrived at St. David's, doctors quickly recognized the problem and removed her appendix, Bartlett said.
"Everything went well," he said.
President-elect Bush visited his daughter about 8 p.m. EST.
Bush heading to Florida for vacation
Bush, who recently resigned as Texas governor, was enjoying his last Christmas at the mansion before moving to the White House. He is expected to travel Tuesday to Boca Grande, a Florida island resort in the Gulf Coast, to begin a previously scheduled family vacation.
Laura Bush, Jenna Bush's mother, was expected to stay in Austin with her daughter until Wednesday, when the pair would head to Florida, Bartlett said.
This is the second time in a week that a member of the Bush family has been admitted to a hospital.
Laura Bush's mother, Jenna Welch, who is in her 80s, suffered dizzy spells and felt faint Wednesday at a Christmas party. She was held overnight in a hospital for observation.
The whole family attended Christmas Eve services at the Tarrytown United Methodist Church in suburban Austin on Sunday night.
