| Explosive device blasts car in Hong Kong, 1 injured
HONG KONG (Reuters) -- An explosive device wrecked a car in Hong Kong on Wednesday and injured the driver but police said they had yet to determine what type of device was used. In separate incidents last week, the police evacuated a shopping mall and a subway before destroying two suspect bombs. Wednesday's blast occurred shortly after the driver drove off from a public carpark in the New Territories, where he had left his vehicle for about 40 minutes, a senior police official said. "According to our explosives disposal officer, an explosion actually took place but the type of explosive device cannot be confirmed at this stage," said senior superintendent Albert Kwok. The driver's condition was stable, a government spokeswoman said, adding that the blast was under investigation. The police did not elaborate on the identity of the driver. No other details were available and it was not clear if Wednesday's blast was related to the earlier bomb scares. Copyright 2000 Reuters. All rights reserved.
