That's a lot of dough!January 4, 2000
(CNN) -- What do you get when you combine 165,000 pounds of flour, 6,050 pounds of butter, 37,000 eggs, 385 gallons of milk and 3,300 pounds of sugar? An attempt at the world's largest roll of bread. Thousands of Mexican volunteers and 2,000 pastry chefs were on hand Sunday to help mix and decorate the gigantic loaf of bread, which measured 2,186 yards long and weighed 15 tons. The bread, which is traditionally served for "Three Kings Day," was decorated with dried fruit. "Three Kings Day" is celebrated on January 6 in commemoration of the visit of the three wise men to the baby Jesus and marks the end of the 12 days of Christmas. In addition to eating the traditional bread, gifts are also exchanged. The Guinness Book of World Records will confirm if the bread broke a world record in its next issue. Reuters contributed to this report. RELATED STORIES: Philly boasts, eats record-setting cheesesteak RELATED SITES: Guinness World Records
