(CNN) -- Certain chefs are standing a bit taller these days, after winning a prestigious designation from Food & Wine magazine.

The publication handed out its Best New Chefs Awards for 2000 at a ceremony in New York this week.

Each year, the magazine's editors select 10 promising new chefs from across the country to receive the honor. They hold tastings and consult with food writers, restaurant reviewers and other chefs to help narrow the list.

This year's honorees will be featured in the magazine's July issue.

Previous winner include such notable chefs as Daniel Boulud, Nobu Matsuhisa and Thomas Keller.

American Express Publishing (publisher of Food & Wine), is a subsidiary of American Express Company, which is managed by Time Inc. Time Inc. is owned by Time Warner Inc., which also owns Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., where CNN is a wholly owned subsidiary.
