O'Hair figure sentenced on federal weapons charge
FORT WORTH, Texas (CNN) -- An ex-convict once implicated in the conspiracy to kidnap and murder a missing atheist and her family was sentenced to two years probation Monday on an unrelated weapons charge. Gerald Lee Osborne, 49, pleaded guilty in April to felony possession of five rounds of .357-caliber ammunition. Osbourne was named in a federal affidavit alleging that he and others conspired to kill atheist leader Madalyn O'Hair, her son and granddaughter, though no charges were filed against him. O'Hair, her son and granddaughter have been missing from their San Antonio home since 1995. Investigators believe they were kidnapped, robbed of $500,000 in gold coins, then killed and dismembered. Osbourne is suspected of renting a storage unit in Austin, allegedly used to dispose of the bodies, though no bodies were ever found.
