Florida drivers may drop class action lawsuit
MIAMI (CNN) -- Attorneys for Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc. have asked a federal judge to move a class action lawsuit against them from state to federal court, but the case may be on its way to being dropped.
Company attorney Lee Teichner said the motion was filed late Thursday afternoon in Miami federal court, after a class action suit was filed on behalf of Florida drivers with recalled Firestone tires.
Plaintiffs' lawyers have asked the federal judge leave the suit in state court.
However, on Thursday afternoon Firestone announced it would extend its program allowing consumers to go to any tire dealer for replacement tires. That was a main thrust of the class-action suit. An attorney for the plaintiffs said if Firestone will give those assurances in writing to the federal judge, the plaintiffs will be satisfied.
The company announced Thursday it would allow such a move, and predicted the recall would be completed by the end of the year.
