Judge recuses herself in voter lawsuits
WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (CNN) -- For the second time in two days a circuit judge in Palm Beach County has recused herself from hearing voter suits over the 2000 presidential election. Judge Catherine Brunson said in a short order that said she was removing herself because an attorney for Vice President Al Gore had represented her husband in a legal action. "The attorney for Vice President Al Gore, Gregory F. Barnhart of Searcy, Denney, Scarola, Barnhart and Shipley, was attorney of record for my husband in a recent lawsuit," Brunson said.
Monday, Judge Stephen Rapp recused himself after an attorney for one of the growing number of cases being filed here by voters alleged that Rapp had made comments prejudicial to the case. The cases have been reassigned Edward H. Fine, but it is uncertain if he will proceed with an afternoon hearing. A Haitian-American group filed suit Tuesday morning, making at least seven suits challenging Palm Beach County's "butterfly" ballot as illegally confusing.
