| Icelandic volcano falls silent again
From staff reports (CNN) -- The eruption of the Iceland's famous volcano Hekla appears to have ended, the Nordic Volcanology Institute said Wednesday. The eruption started February 26 and was the fifth since 1970. The activity around Hekla on Monday was reduced to little white clouds of smoke and minor tremors, the institute said. The activity dropped through Tuesday and at 8:44 a.m. Wednesday the final tremors were recorded, geologist Bjarni Richter of Iceland National Energy Authority told CNN Denmark. The volcano has been silent since, and the eruption is assumed to be over, scientists said.
Hekla, one of Europe's highest volcanoes, rises 1,491 meters (4,892 feet) above sea level.
