Scientists plumb life beneath the Amazon

CNN's Gary Strieker looks at the diversity of aquatic life in the Amazon basin and what scientists are trying to learn from it.MAMIRAUA RESERVE, Brazil (CNN) -- The incredible diversity of wildlife in the western Brazilian Amazon rain forest doesn't stop at the water's edge. Hidden within the jungle's vast network of rivers and streams are thousands of species, living in a habitat that scientists are just beginning to explore.
Researchers have embarked on a study aimed at identifying and tracking the many species that live in the Amazon River Basin. Correspondent Gary Strieker reports on their efforts, which could be critical to the ecosystem's long-term survival.
