Mexican reserve attempts to balance wildlife, human survival

Mexico's Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve has drawn the world's attention for being the most important protected area in Mexico. Covering some 6 million acres, the reserve is home to an amazingly diverse plant and animal population.

Continuing threats to the survival of wildlife in the reserve have prompted officials to rethink how to handle the development of the region. A recent announcement by the Mexican government outlines a plan that will attempt to improve the lives of people in the area while preserving the landscape and its living resources.
