HOLLYWOOD, California -- After more than 40 years in movies and television, actor and
comedian Don Rickles is finally a star -- the 2,166th, to be exact.
The veteran actor's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was unveiled Tuesday, with friends Bob Newhart and Tony Danza on hand for the ceremony. He thanked his fans for their support -- sort of.
Rickles, an acid-mouthed joker who's made a living comparing people to hockey pucks, slipped in a few good-natured snarls between his smiles. "I thank all the fans, because without you I wouldn't have a star on the street and I could have had a pleasant day at home," he said.
Rickles, 74, is perhaps best known for his TV series, "The Don Rickles Show" (1968-1969). He's appeared in numerous movies, including "Beach Blanket Bingo" (1965) and "Kelly's Heroes" (1970), and was the voice of Mr. Potato Head in "Toy Story" (1995), and "Toy Story 2" (1999).
