Matt Damon gets honest in 'All The Pretty Horses'

New York (CNN) -- Matt Damon's latest film, "All The Pretty Horses," runs loose in theaters Monday, and this time, the actor says he didn't lose his lunch when he watched it.

Damon has said the movie is the first time he's seen himself onscreen without wanting to "throw up."

"There is stuff that I do where I am just, like, 'Oh man, this is brutal and why did I do that and why did I make that choice and what am I doing?'" says Damon. "This time I just -- I don't know, it just seemed pretty honest when I saw it."

"All The Pretty Horses" is based on the Cormac McCarthy novel of the same name. For Damon, there were no ifs, ands or buts about taking the role of Texan cowboy John Grady Cole.

"It was a very, very rare kind of occurrence where you have a great piece of material and a great role and a great director," says the actor. "I honestly wish I could keep doing this movie forever. This is the first time I felt this way about something and I think I'll be chasing that feeling for the rest of my career."

Since he can't keep doing the movie, Damon at least learned a valuable life lesson from it.

"There ain't but one truth: the truth is what happened, it ain't what come out of sombody's mouth," says his character at one point in the film.

"Yeah, that's a really good way to put it," says Damon. "Those are words to live by."
