A different kind of spice: They're Nobody's Angel

band
The women who make up "Nobody's Angel" met at singing auditions

(CNN) -- Sure, you've heard plenty of talk about boy bands. But the best representation of a girl band -- the Spice Girls -- has faded from popularity.

That leaves the door open for Nobody's Angel, four girls who got together to make music. The band is made up of Amy Sue Hardy, Stacy Harper, Ali Navarro and Sarah Smith -- all in their early 20s. They met at singing auditions.

"At the auditions, we'd see the same people all the time," says Smith, 20. "We became friends and hung out and we clicked and we just decided to do this. It was a great idea."

Last season they appeared on the ABC comedy "Boy Meets World." Now, with their self-titled debut album, the four women hope to make their mark on the music scene.

"It's very danceable," says Navarro, 21, of her band's music. "You can party to it, there are some beautiful ballads, there's a variety of different kinds of music."

The name of their group has seeds in a popular 1970s TV show that featured three attractive crime detectives. A film based on the show is scheduled to star Tim Curry, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Alexis Liu. It's in production for a release in November from Columbia Pictures.

"Sarah has always been into the '70s. She loves 'Charlie's Angels,'" explains Harper, 23. "She said, 'We've got to do something with 'Charlie's Angels.' I was like, 'Sarah, you are nobody's angel.' And we were like, 'That's it, that's it, that's it!'"

Now, the members of Nobody's Angel might have dreams of Spice Girl stardom, but they claim they'll only let it go so far.

"We made a pact amongst ourselves," says Smith, "that when it stops being fun we're going to stop doing it."

But for now, the fun has just begun.
