SAN REMO, Italy (CNN) -- For 50 years, the San Remo music festival has been a platform for Italy's established acts and a launch pad for its new performers. This year, the event featured veteran rapper Jovanotti, Latin pop artist Nek and fresh-faced rocker Irene Grandi.
But the festival isn't just a showcase for national acts. The Eurythmics and U2's Bono also performed, giving the festival an international flair.
CNN WorldBeat's Bruno del Granado talked with the stars about what makes San Remo special.
