(CNN) -- For the last 20 years, the Bahia Music Festival has been one of the world’s most popular celebrations of African and South American music. Thousands of locals and tourists take to the streets of Salvador, Brazil, each March to join in the intense party.
At this year’s event, revelers danced and sang along to Grammy winner Gilberto Gil, native son Dodo, heartthrob Alexandre and nearly 100 other musicians.
CNN WorldBeat reporter Debra Daugherty joined that party to discover firsthand the festival’s history and excitement.
