They're both competing for best United Kingdom and Ireland act, and best song (Williams, "Rock the DJ" and Sonique's "It Feels So Good"). Williams' other nominations include best male artist and best pop act. Sonique also is vying for best new act and best dance act.

Rapper Eminem, rock group Bon Jovi, Madonna, Britney Spears, Melanie C and Scottish pop band Travis all earned three nominations each.

  • Eminem: best album ("The Marshall Mathers LP"), best male, best hip-hop act
  • Bon Jovi: best album ("Crush"), best group, best rock act
  • Madonna: best female, best dance act and best song ("Music")
  • Britney Spears: best pop act, best female, best song ("Oops ... I Did It Again!")
  • Mel C: best new act, best female, best song ("Never Be The Same Again")
  • Travis: best album ("The Man Who"), best group, best UK and Ireland act

For the first time, a Finnish act made the list. The dance/hip-hop group Bomfunk MCs, which does the song "Freestyler," is in the running for best new act.

The MTV Europe Music Awards are slated for November 16 in Stockholm's Globen Arena. Wyclef Jean of The Fugees is to emcee the show. Presenters include Alice Cooper, the Cardigans and Eros Ramazotti. Twenty-one awards will be presented in the live broadcast two-hour show.
