Tennessee teen sorry for writing plan to kill 'N Sync

GALLATIN, Tennessee (CNN) -- A 17-year-old Tennessee boy is undergoing psychological evaluations after his mother uncovered an alleged plan to kill the members of 'N Sync, according to officials.

The woman notified authorities recently when she found a folder in her son's room labeled "Operation Death Strike." It contained what appeared to be plot to ambush the boy band at an upcoming concert in Atlanta, said Chief Deputy Bob Barker of the Sumner County (Tennessee) Sheriff's Department.

The checklist included robbing a local gun store, "taking out" the store's owner and then heading to Atlanta, where he would open fire on 'N Sync at Philips Arena, Barker confirmed.

The writings indicate the boy may have been jealous or just tired of hearing about the high-school girls talking about Saturday's concert, he said.

"The group gets all the good girls," the teen wrote.

No criminal charges will be filed against the teen because there's no indication that he set the plans in motion, Barker said, adding that such an grandiose scheme would have required additional forces.

"He may have built up some animosities and wrote out a fantasy thing," Barker added. "He's extremely remorseful that he even thought it out."

CNN.com Writer Mary-Jo G. Lipman contributed to this report.
