Country's Faith Hill leads American Music Award nominations
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- Country singer Faith Hill, rapidly becoming a favorite at awards shows, led the list of nominees for the American Music Awards with four nods, organizers announced Monday. Suave salsa singer Marc Anthony and Florida-bred rock band Creed picked up three nominations each. Eight acts received two nominations each, including pop singer Britney Spears, who will host the event. The 28th annual awards ceremony will take place January 8 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. ABC television will broadcast the event. Mississippi-born Hill's latest album, "Breathe," has been in the U.S. pop charts for exactly one year, racking up sales of 3.7 million units. Already this year, she has won the female vocalist prizes at both the Country Music Association Awards and the rival Academy of Country Music Awards. Illustrating her crossover appeal, 33-year-old Hill received American Music Awards nominations for favorite female artist in both the pop/rock and country categories, favorite adult contemporary artist and favorite country album. Her husband, Tim McGraw, received one nomination, for favorite male country artist.
New York native Marc Anthony, another artist who has transcended musical genres, will compete with Hill for favorite adult contemporary artist. He was also nominated for favorite male pop/rock artist and favorite Latin artist. Creed, whose Christian-influenced music has made the quartet one of the biggest rock successes of the past few years, was nominated for favorite band, duo or group and favorite album ("Human Clay"), both in the pop/rock category, and favorite alternative music artist. Besides Spears, the other multiple nominees are R&B acts Toni Braxton, Sisqo and Destiny's Child, Canadian pop singer Celine Dion, rapper Eminem, country singer Alan Jackson, and pop group 'N Sync.
