Shawn Mullins shines with 'Velvet Sun'

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Singer Shawn Mullins hasn't let success go to his head.

After 10 years of playing gigs in and around his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, Mullins in 1998 released his seventh album, "Soul's Core." It went platinum and spawned the smash hit, "Lullaby." Now he's promoting his latest album, "Beneath the Velvet Sun," which boasts collaborations with Grammy-winning singer Shawn Colvin and Shelby Lynne.

Sometimes Mullins says, he still feels like he's dreaming. "What I'm getting out on this record is that there's still the feeling, 'I can't ... believe this is happening to me ... I don't deserve this.'"

Despite the fame and fortune, Mullins, who lives here, tells fans he's still the same person. "This is definitely a different record, but it's still me," he says. "The process is still the same and so is the way I write."
