'Christmas Stays the Same' for singer Linda Eder
(CNN) -- There's a special new resident at singer Linda Eder's house this Christmas, so special, in fact, that she wrote a song just for him. The song, titled "Christmas Through a Child's Eyes," appears on her holiday album, "Christmas Stays the Same." The song, inspired by Eder's newborn son, was truly a family affair; Eder wrote the lyrics, and her husband, composer Frank Wildhorn, created the music. The song is one of three new songs on her album, which also includes Christmas regulars such as "O Holy Night," "Ave Maria" and "Silent Night."
Eder had no problem picking out her favorite holiday songs. "I don't like too many new Christmas songs. People are always writing new ones. But I'm a real traditionalist. I like the old Christmas standards we've heard all our lives," she says. Some people hesitate at the thought of mixing work and family, but not Eder. Not only did she collaborate with her husband on the album, Wildhorn wrote the music for the album's three original songs.
"I'm the luckiest person in the world," says Eder. "How lucky can a girl get, if she's a singer, to marry a composer who wants to write for her?" The couple has been working on projects together for more than 10 years. Beginning in 1990, Eder starred in the musical, "Jekyll and Hyde," which Wildhorn adapted for the stage. The long-running musical eventually reached Broadway in 1997. "Maybe what he writes best is what I sing the best," says Eder. RELATED STORIES: Looking for some holiday music?
