'Then Came You'

Can younger man, older woman find happiness ... and ratings?

ABC has given the midseason replacement, "Then Came You," a hot time slot

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- You've probably heard of a May-December relationship, a union between an older person and a younger sweetheart. Well, ABC is promoting a romantic comedy better described as May-July.

"Then Came You," stars Thomas Newton and Susan Floyd in just that sort of chronologically lopsided affair. She plays Billie, a 33-year-old book editor who leaves her predictable lawyer husband and moves into a Chicago hotel to re-evaluate her life. She falls for Aidan, a carefree 22-year-old room-service waiter played by Thomas.

Floyd says she identifies with her character's boldness.

"She's trying to rediscover herself, (to) find her passion for life, recreate who she is without having to rely on conventions of society," Floyd says. "She's just concerned with being true to herself, which is why I like her."

Floyd and Newton have plenty of steamy bedroom scenes, but they're not expecting the audience to tune in for their mutual attraction alone.

"Relationships are very complicated things for a variety of reasons," she says, "and the age difference in this show is one of their issues."

ABC is feeling confident in this midseason replacement. It's ordered 13 episodes and given the series a plum position Wednesday nights at 8:30 p.m. ET, following "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"
