'Fifth Estate' tops Canadian TV awards

TORONTO, Canada -- "The Fifth Estate," Canada's long-running current-affairs show, has received the most awards so far at the 15th annual Gemini Awards.

The awards ceremony, Canada's equivalent of the Emmys, takes place over three consecutive nights. It began during the weekend, with technical and craft prizes awarded. "The Fifth Estate" won four honors -- plaudits for writing, direction, best information segment and the coveted news information series award.

The TV movie, "Dr. Lucille: The Lucille Teasdale Story," won awards for best photography, costumes, and original music score.

The final night show, during which the more prestigious awards will be doled out, take places Monday night. It will be broadcast live on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation television.

Reuters contributed to this report.
