CNN experiments with new prime-time lineup

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- CNN is revamping its weeknight lineup, cutting one show in half, creating another and leaving a prime-time slot open after the presidential election is over, officials at the network announced Tuesday.

Today on CNN

Anchor Wolf Blitzer, who is anchoring a special edition of "The World Today" this week, on Monday will begin hosting "Wolf Blitzer Reports," a new, half-hour show. It will air at 8 p.m. EST, the network said.

Also on Monday will be a new, as-yet-unnamed show featuring Greta Van Susteren, currently a co-host of CNN's "Burden of Proof" legal-affairs show. The half-hour program, airing at 8:30 p.m. EST, will allow Van Susteren to explore stories at depth and provide her own analysis, officials said.

"Larry King Live" will remain at its 9 p.m. EST time slot.

The network's 10 p.m. EST slot will become open after the election between Vice President Al Gore and Texas Gov. George W. Bush is concluded. That time slot presently is occupied by Senior Analyst Jeff Greenfield, who nightly hosts a show wrapping up the election events of the day. CNN hopes to give him a regular slot when the election concludes, but it's not certain where or when it would be, executives said Tuesday.

The network also is looking for a permanent place for "The Spin Room," its political-debate show. Co-hosted by Tucker Carlson and Bill Press, the show now airs at 11 p.m. EST, but beginning Monday will move to 10:30 p.m. EST on a trial basis.
