'Simpsons' Monopoly game passes go

graphic

HOLLYWOOD, California (Reuters) -- Forget Boardwalk: The most coveted spot on a Monopoly board could soon be the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. Fox Licensing and Merchandising has struck a deal with USAopoly for a new version of Monopoly based on characters and locations from "The Simpsons" cartoon.

Instead of a top hat or a thimble, players will now move around the board with pewter images of Homer and Bart; instead of passing Atlantic City landmarks, a roll of the dice will land folks at Burns Manor or the Krusty Burger.

The new Springfield-based Monopoly will be unveiled this February at Toy Fair in New York City. It's expected to be on store shelves by early spring, and comes on the heels of a "Simpsons"-themed version of "Clue" launched in August.

Several toy and game chains have reported selling out their stock of the "Simpsons" Clue.

Fox also announced Monday a slew of new "Simpsons"-related products to be rolled out at Toy Fair, including:

  • Sunday Best Homer, Moe, Nelson, Milhouse, Otto and Kamp Krusty, Bart interactive figures from Playmates. An interactive Simpsons family car is in the works.
  • A new line of "Simpsons" trading cards from Inkworks -- the first new set of cards in six years.
  • A Homer-centric "Simpsons" trivia game from Cardinal Industries.
