Fashion in the real world
(ELLE.com) Russian astronauts go glam, and Ralph Lauren makes
another donation to charity.
Space: The Final Fashion Frontier
Space travel just got hip. Turns out Donatella Versace has been approached
by the Russian Space Flight Control Center (SCSC) to design uniforms
for Russian astronauts. The platinum-tressed designer, known for outfitting
Hollywoods glitterati in her signature sexy gowns, has been
asked to inject some sparkle into the cosmonauts uniform. Versace
would rework the astronauts pre-flight suits worn at public
appearances, as well as sport training and daily use uniforms. The
astronauts spacewalk and in-flight suits, however, wont
be subject to Donatellas touch they are considered too
technical for a fashion designer. Talks of Russian astronauts modeling
the new line during Milans fashion week are in the works, though
no deal has yet been signed.
Fashion with a Heart
American designer Ralph Lauren has donated $5 million for a hospital-based
cancer center in Harlem. The Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Prevention
and Care will offer treatments, referrals and screenings in association
with the North General Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center in New York. Its not enough to offer screening
in a poor population. You have to create a system that assures that
people have positive findings get treated rapidly and with good quality,
says Dr. Harold Freeman, who inspired Ralph Lauren to launch the project.
The center will also provide patient navigators to assist
cancer patients throughout their treatment. Ralph Lauren is also a
sponsor of the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer program.
