NEW YORK (CNN) -- When architect Jerry Caldari agreed to design a New York apartment, his client -- a scholar and collector of women's literature -- had one directive: Nearly every room was to have bookshelves.

"She wanted us to create a woman's library, which is different from a man's dark, somber, heavy feeling -- something that was light and bright, optimistic and a little bit sexy," Caldari explains.

Putting in all the books without taking away the apartment's character was a challenge. "We didn't really want the apartment to feel like you were in a bookseller's or in the New York Public Library," he says.

Tour the apartment with CNN Correspondent Elsa Klensch to see Caldari's creation.
