Tag-team decorators make designs on New York penthouse

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Friends often ask each other for decorating tips, and if the advice giver is an interior design professional -- all the better.

Motivational author Tina Flaherty had the benefit of such expertise when Mary Louise Guertler, a friend for more than 20 years, offered her expertise.

Flaherty, who wrote "Talk Your Way to the Top" and "The Savvy Woman's Success Bible," recruited Guertler to help transform her Fifth Avenue penthouse into an elegant showcase.

Together, they kept the living room light and bright, with a mood that's dignified yet inviting. The red-walled dining room feels glamorous. And the pine-paneled library provides a cozy space for catching up on the classics.
