Al Capone's Wisconsin hide-out for sale at $4.25 millionCOUDERAY, Wisconsin (Reuters) -- For Sale: Secluded home and lake on 407 acres in a north Wisconsin pine forest. Going for at least $4.25 million. And, oh yeah, Al Capone slept here. A hide-out used for years by the Roaring '20s Chicago gangster was on the market Thursday at what a Chicago auction house called a bottom-line price. Douglas Johnson, a vice president at Sheldon Good & Co., said the owners would auction the estate, which has its own lake, for a minimum price of $4.25 million. Also included is part of the property converted into a supper club and cocktail lounge called "The Hide-out, Al Capone's Retreat and Museum." Capone ruled a $50 million-a-year empire of illegal booze and prostitution before the federal government sent him to Alcatraz in 1938 for tax evasion. Prior to that, he and his henchmen motored to Wisconsin's North Woods to escape Chicago when things got hot, weather-wise or otherwise. Capone died in 1948 of syphilis in Florida.
