Clements Ribeiro goes 'glamourama' for springJanuary 25, 2000 LONDON (CNN) -- To inject energy into their spring/summer 2000 collection, Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro went wild with geometric shapes. The husband-and-wife design team used circles, specks, dots, squares and stripes to create an effect they call "glamourama." Ribeiro says he especially likes circular shapes because they represent the idea that everything that goes around comes around. "Everything was dots," he says. They range from pin-sized to coin-sized, and they're done in a variety of materials, including velvet, jacquard and florescent sequins. "We also reinvented the stripes," Ribeiro says. "We had the stripes go within an orchard print for a strong 'cruise feel,' and we played a lot with volume. There were ... dresses with gatherings in strange places, which we thought was great fun and a new departure for us." CNN Style Correspondent Elsa Klensch contributed to this report. |
