Badgley, Mischka dress brides in 'knockout' gowns
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Brides dressed by Mark Badgley and James Mischka are heading down the aisle this season cloaked in gowns with simple silhouettes and exquisite detail. "The dress has to be glamorous," Badgley says. "We're finding a bride ... is almost treating it like her Academy Awards. They want the dress to be drop-dead, knockout glamorous and sexy." "Our bride is definitely a sexy bride, Mischka adds. "She will definitely show a lot of skin ... (but) always in a tasteful way -- never vulgar." The New York designers say they use about 15 laces in the collection -- sometimes three patterns in one dress. They also pride themselves on workmanship, using embroideries and new beading techniques. The designs feature "a lot of new kinds of beading from us," Mischka says. "A lot of combinations of antique and ... space-age materials." And brides are getting more wear out of their Badgley-Mischka numbers these days. "Sometimes they definitely wear them after the wedding," Mischka says. "A lot of the time, they want to cut them off later on and make them into a cocktail dress or (to) wear to another event."
