Rowley goes for classic, casual lookNEW YORK (CNN) -- The clothes in Cynthia Rowley's fall/winter collection manage to be comfortable, cozy, casual and luxurious. The New York designer's clothes are always attractive, but in her latest collection -- one of her best in seasons -- she upgrades the look with classic fabrics. She calls it "everyday luxury." "A lot of the fabrics in the past few seasons have been all embellished and sparkly and embroidered," she said. "And now for fall, I'm just starting with really beautiful, great fabrics. That's sort of the starting point."
The materials range from wool and cashmere to fur and alligator leather. The colors, including cordovan, rust, plum and avocado green, are particularly rich.
Rowley likes to show legs, and she also likes to play with the proportion of knee-high boots. Her pants are slim, fitted to the waist -- with trouser silhouettes. Her fondness for leather also appears in everything from coats and dresses to pants and skirts, including leather featuring plaid and floral prints. For her, the fun comes from trying something new. "It's a combination," she said, "of really polished with really unpolished." RELATED STORIES: Shirt tales for spring/summer 2000 RELATED SITES: Cynthia Rowley |
