(IDG) -- NewTek has released a Mac version of LightWave 3D, the company has annnounced at Macworld Expo.

The top-selling professional animation software for film, broadcast and video will soon be available for the PowerMac Platform.

LightWave 6 adds a number of powerful character animation tools, advanced rendering capabilities, and improved architecture. The software is also accelerated for the Mac G4 velocity engine.

"LightWave contains features never before seen on a Macintosh based computer," said Brad Peebler, vice president of marketing for NewTek.

He added: "With its new G4 processors, the Mac will represent the fastest rendering solution to provide caustics, radiosity, ray tracing and volumetrics in one system."

LightWave 6 for the Mac will first be available in the U.S. this spring for $2,495.
