AT&T rolls out more DSL choices
(IDG) -- AT&T has introduced two new DSL services that offer business customers more bandwidth for less money. The carrier's new basic single-user service costs $50 per month and offers transmission speeds of 608K bit/sec downstream and 128K bit/sec upstream. What AT&T calls its professional-grade service, which costs $80 per month, offers transmission speeds of 1.5M bit/sec downstream and 384K bit/sec upstream.
AT&T is waving its $300 installation fees for both services until the end of September. These services replace the company's initial single-user DSL offering, which cost $60 per month for 384K bit/sec downstream and 128K bit/sec upstream, says Manish Malhotra, director of broadband business services at AT&T. Now more business users can sign up for DSL from AT&T. The carrier is ahead of schedule with DSL services available in 100 markets - an achievement previously set to be in place by year-end. "One hundred markets equals about 300 to 400 cities," Malhotra says. AT&T expects to deploy services in about 15 to 20 additional markets by year-end.
