Chinese company throws down gauntlet to hackers

Computerworld

HONG KONG (IDG) -- A Mainland company has issued an open invitation to hackers all over the world to pit their wits against their new security system, reported the People's Daily.

In a promotion that kicked off last Monday, and is slated to continue through September 1, Hisense Digital Technology company, a Mainland consumer electronics business, offered 500,000 yuan (U.S. $60,400) to any one who could successfully hack into a server defended by its newly developed firewall products, the report said.

To win the money, hackers may either hack the Hisense homepage, which is currently being displayed on a large screen in front of a Beijing department store, or gain access to a designated document located on the server, the report said.

At the time of the report there had already been nearly 36,000 attacks recorded from around the globe, according to Hisense.

Company officials remained resolute that their security measures would stand, but noted that they would make the most of any breach by using the knowledge gained to further refine the system.
