(CNN) -- This weekend, space geeks from all over the world will gather as the gavel drops on an extraordinary auction of space memorabilia that has been accumulating for decades just outside the gates of NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

It is an eclectic collection of castoffs from the heyday of the space race -- all gathered by one man on a singular mission.

CNN Space Correspondent Miles O'Brien offers a preview.
