United Airlines cancels another 80 flights at O'Hare
CHICAGO -- A shortage of pilots led United Airlines to cancel about 80 flights at O'Hare International Airport on Sunday, the airline said.
Bad weather caused some of the cancellations, a spokesman said, but many were due to the lack of pilots. Other flights around the country also were canceled, though the company did not say how many.
It was the second day of United delays at O'Hare. On Saturday, the airline canceled about 150 flights.
The airline's pilots have refused overtime since April, when their contract expired, United spokesman Chris Brathwaite said.
"We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers," a recorded announcement said. "We are making every effort to get our customers to their destinations."
Many of the pilots had worked all of their allotted weekly hours to make up for flights canceled because of bad weather late last week, Brathwaite said. A spokesman for the pilots was not available.
United has about 960 flights per day out of O'Hare.
