Athens gets Acropolis metro stop
ATHENS, Greece (Reuters) -- Tourists will be able to travel to the Acropolis by underground on a section of the Athens Metro opened by Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis Wednesday.
The new line from central Syntagma Square to western Dafni suburb stops at Acropolis station at the foot of the massive rock crowned with the Parthenon Temple. It is expected to carry 120,000 passengers daily.
The state-of-the-art metro opened 10 months ago, covering northwestern and central Athens and linking with an old suburban system from the port of Piraeus to the northern suburbs.
