| Texas board clears way for execution of great-grandmotherDALLAS (CNN) -- The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles denied a clemency request Tuesday by convicted murderer Betty Lou Beets. Barring any last-minute court stays, the 62-year-old great-grandmother will be executed Thursday in Huntsville. Beets was sentenced to die by lethal injection for the 1983 murder of her fifth husband, Jimmy Don Beets. Prosecutors said he was killed for his life insurance and firefighter's pension. She was also accused but not convicted of killing her fourth husband in 1981. Bodies of both men were found buried in Beets' front yard flowerbed, shot in the head. Beets based her clemency request on her contention that she was physically abused by all five of her husbands.
