| Jetliner skids off airport runway in California
BURBANK, California (CNN) -- A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 skidded off the runway after landing at Burbank International Airport and came to a halt next to a gas station across from the airport. The Federal Aviation Administration said five people were being taken to area hospitals. The jet came to a stop in the middle of Hollywood Way, near a row of businesses. At least one car was struck and the aircraft lost its nose in the accident. The five taken to hospital were the driver of the car and four passengers. There were no early reports of serious injuries. The FAA identified the plane as Flight 1455, which was believed to have originated in Las Vegas. Emergency vehicles were on the scene. Television pictures showed the plane had been covered in foam as a safety precaution, but there were no reports of fire. The aircraft stopped just yards from several stores. It had smashed through a fence at the end of the runway. RELATED STORIES: For more US news, myCNN.com will bring you news from the areas and subjects you select.
